What is TripRank? The free trip recorder that scores and ranks every drive
By the TripRank team · 20 October 2026 · 6 min read
TripRank is a trip recorder and drive tracker for your phone. You press start, drive as you normally do, and when you finish you get a clear summary: how far you went, how fast, how smoothly, and a driving score from 0 to 100. Every drive also counts towards your place on the leaderboards, so a good commute is not just a log entry. It is a result.
The name says what it is for: every trip, every rank. If you searched for “trip rank” or “triprank”, this is the app you were looking for, and this page explains it from the beginning.
What TripRank records on every drive
While a trip is running, TripRank uses your phone's GPS to record position, speed and time. From those points it works out the numbers that describe the drive:
- Distance and duration, so you know exactly what a route costs in time.
- Top speed and average speed, with a note when you stay above a sensible limit for long.
- Hard brakes and hard starts, pinned on the map so you can see where they happened.
- A driving score from 0 to 100, built from how smooth and steady the drive was. Read how the driving score works.
- A fuel and cost estimate using your own car and the fuel price you set. Learn the habits that cut that number.
What makes it different from a plain trip log
Most trip recorders stop at the log. TripRank adds the part that makes you want to open it tomorrow:
- Leaderboards for distance, score, trips and top speed, worldwide, among friends and inside your own crew, with a monthly season that resets so anyone can win.
- A-to-B races: pick a start and a finish, send the link, and the fastest legal drive wins. See how races and challenges work safely.
- Challenges: turn any drive into a challenge and see who can beat your score on the same road.
- Streaks and daily goals, plus a weekly recap you can share as a poster.
- A driving coach that shows the moments that cost you points, with plain advice.
- Flight filtering: if you record a flight or a very fast train by mistake, it is kept in your own history but never counts towards totals or leaderboards.
Is it a trip tracker or a trip recorder?
Both, and a drive tracker too. The words overlap more than people expect. If you are not sure which you need, our comparison of trip trackers, trip recorders and drive trackers explains the differences in two minutes.
